Profile

Research into basic and applied ethology, with emphasis on the behaviour of meat producing farm animals, especially broilers and growing pigs.  Influence of the physical and social environment on the behaviour and welfare of the animals is being examined, including studies of feeding behaviour and metabolic stress in fast-growing production animals with a view to evaluate and improve current production systems.  In addition, the associations between feeding, environment and genotype are being investigated in order to describe the relationship between production level of meat producing farm animals and their welfare.
