Profile

Fields of Research:

The testing of vegetable varieties for growing value
The variety testing is carried out at the Department of Horticulture according to an agreement between The Danish Fruit and Vegetable Growers Organisation, Danish Horticultural Seed Association and The University of Aarhus. A so-called Technical Committee has been formed with members from the organisations involved.

In 2008 leek, carrots, green peas, cabbage, pointed cabbage and savoy are tested. To find reports of results from trails carried out after October 2001 click on the different species.

Decision support
I have been involved in the project “Fruits and Vegetables on the Internet”, where cauliflower and carrot have been model crops for vegetables. My part was information on the quality parameters of the varieties tested in Danish variety trials. The information is integrated in the web-site Pl@nteInfo ( www.planteinfo.dk )

Plant genetic resources
In Aarslev we have an obligation to maintain Danish clone collections of the following:
- Hops
- Jerusalem artichoke
- Horseradish
- Rhubarb
- Shallot
In connection with several of the species other projects are or have been attached. To find more information you can click on the species.

Nordic Gene Bank
I am the Danish representative within the Working Group for Vegetables. It is an important assignment to describe the accessions of older Danish varieties in Nordic Gene Bank. In 2001 we have worked on early garden turnip in Aarslev which have been described after UPOV Guidelines. The working group also takes a pride in applying for common projects, especially together with the Baltic States. Information about clone collections has not been available in any database until now, but it will be available for all interested in the near future.
