Project

New indicators for milk quality and nutrient balance (Biosens 1.1)

Projectnumber

F-03342

Responsible

Senior scientist:  Nic Friggens

Abstract

Subproject of Improved monitoring and management of milk production and milk quality based on on-farm biosensor technology.

Partners

The Directorate for Food, Fisheries and Agri Business, Lattec I/S

Description

To develop in-line indicators in milk from individual cows for:

A. monitoring of nutrient status,

B. detection of problems with decreased feed intake,

C. monitoring of fatty acid profiles in milk and oxidative stability in milk.

These new biosensors will for the first time make it possible for the farmer to take daily measurements directly of the milk quality and nutrinet well-being of the individual cows. With this information it will be possible to optimise product composition and quality, not only by changes in feeding, but also by adapting temporal factors such as calving pattern.
