NOVA Postgraduate course in Periparturient metabolism in the dairy cow


NOVA Postgraduate course in Periparturient metabolism in the dairy cow, Sweden, March 1-5, 2010

We are pleased to announce the NOVA course “Periparturient metabolism in the dairy cow”! The course is primarily intended for PhD-students from the Nordic countries, but additional persons may be accepted if places are available. The maximum number of participants is 25.

Prerequisites

Participants must have a degree in animal science or veterinary medicine or similar background.

Teachers and teaching

Professor James K. Drackley, from University of Illinois, USA, well-known world-wide as a top level researcher and teacher in dairy cow metabolism, will be the main teacher, but teaching will also be provided by highly qualified Nordic teachers.

The course will consist of a mixture of lectures and workshops. Active participation of the participants will be promoted by group assignments with oral presentations and discussions of the results. The course will cover topics such as: metabolic adaption during the transition period, nutrient metabolism, insulin dynamics, splanchnic metabolism, etc.

Place and course fee

The course will be held at a course hotel; unknown which for the moment but at least not too far from Uppsala, Sweden. Lodging will primarily be in twin bedrooms.

There is no course fee for PhD students from Nordic or BOVA universities, and accommodation costs are also covered for NOVA-students. Non-NOVA Nordic and BOVA students pay only the accommodation cost, but other participants will have to pay a course fee (including accommodation) of approximately € 700 (other Baltic PhD-students) or € 800 (other participants). All participants pay for their own travels.

Please down-load to your computer, fill in, print, sign and send to your National Coordinator (address in the application form) not later than December 20, 2009. The maximum number of participants is 25, and priority will be given to PhD-students with relevant research areas.
