Profile

Main research emphasis is on the digestive physiology as well as nutrients and energy utilization in monogastric animals. These studies involve the measurements of digestion and absorption at various points along the gastrointestinal tract. Considerable emphasis has been placed on the influence of dietary components on energy metabolism. Comparative studies between different weight of pigs and between species i.e. pigs-rats, pigs-poultry. Furthermore, the influence of ambient temperature on protein and energy metabolism especially in relation to fermentation of dietary fibre. The energy utilization of the fermentation end product and the effect on the protein and energy metabolism have been studied infusing short chain fatty acids into caecum of growing pigs. The effect of ambient temperature and dietary component on tissue respiration both measuring total energy expenditure by means of indirect calorimetry and measuring the Na+,K+-ATPase activity and protein synthesis in vitro.
