Profile

I will be enrolled as a ph.d. student from March 1st 2008 – February 28th 2011, and my work will focus on social behaviour in dairy calves. I will concentrate my work around the age of the calf at separation from the cow and the type of contact to other calves that it subsequently is offered. I’m especially interested in investigating at which age the calf is motivated for social contact to other calves, and if the individual housing is less stressful than group housing for the young calf. In addition to this I intend to investigate whether the stress level at separation can be reduced for both cow and calf by giving them access to social contact to other cows and calves, respectively.
