Profile

I am interested in how hormones and growth factors regulate growth, development, nutrient partitioning and lactation in cattle. I work with cattle at all stages of development – from newborn calves to dairy cows. In the growth experiments we measure feed utilization, nutrient metabolism, muscle physiology, adipose tissue metaboilism, animal health as well as carcass, meat and eating quality related traits. To be able to explore the roles of the hormones, we relate these traits to endocrine measures. The endocrine measures include analyses of hormones, growth factors, binding proteins and nutrients in blood, milk and tissue extracts. We also analyse hormone-receptor characteristics and gene expression og growth factors in tissues like muscles, liver and mammary gland. I cooperate with scientist form other DIAS departments and from other Danish and international research institutes.
