Profile

My research is mainly concentrated on nutrition and physiology in monogastric animals, primarily poultry. The nutritional value of different feed ingredients involving parameters as nutrient digestibility, intestinal viscosity and passage rate is studied. The effect of the content and chemical composition of the carbohydrates in feed on nutritional and physiological parameters is examined. The correlation between carbohydrate content and the microbial activity are investigated in some studies. Furthermore there is focus on studies involving allometric measures (relative growth) of different organs in broilers in order to quantify the degree of imbalance in growth and development in different broiler lines and in relation to different feedings strategies. The research also includes the use of alternative feed ingredients (including different types of roughages) and its effect on nutrient digestibility, production parameters and mortality in ecological egg-production is studied.

In addition, I am involved in teaching and education of MSc. students connected to Danida projects, especially related to feed selection by free scavenging poultry and reproduction in poultry.
