Profile

The overall aim of the research group is to create and disseminate basic and applied knowledge of protective and disease mechanisms and bio-markers with a view to developing health and reproduction promoting stragegies for the future farm animal production – strategies that will benefit society, industry and consumers.

Main areas of research

The main areas of research comprise

  • Elucidation of the biological basis for disease and reproduction problems and how they are affected by genotype and environment
  • Research in and dissemination of basic knowledge of disease mechanisms, immunology and reproduction, including development of animal models for health-related human problems
  • Identification of bio- and selection markers with focus on disease and reproduction states by means of modern technologies (e.g. gene expression, proteomics, flowcytometry) and classic laboratory methods as well as shedding light on the biological function of the bio-markers
  • Integration of knowledge of the biological basis, disease mechanisms and use of bio-markers in models and strategies for early identification and prevention of disease and reproduction problems
