Research Centre Foulum

Research director:  Jacob Holm Nielsen

Profile

Department of Food Science performs research in food science, provides research-based teaching and contributes guidance and research-based advice to the authorities.

Focus areas:

  • Differentiation of food regarding health-promoting properties and sensory quality
  • Healthy food – creating well-being
  • Food technology

The research often takes place in close collaboration with the industry, and comprises both basic and application-oriented research. A focused strategy on investments in research equipment ensures our position in the top league when we are involved in research projects. In addition the faculty provides a number of unique facilities, such as well-defined cultivation conditions, stable facilities, own abattoir and a pilot plant for dairy technology research.

Our department provides research-based teaching and sees it as a primary task to disseminate research results to both the international world of research as well as to the surrounding society. We aim to create an attractive study environment for our PhD students, and our department has its own graduate school programme.

Knowledge and people are our resources. Therefore we offer flexible working conditions with an open management style involving the employees. Today the department has more than 60 employees, and in 2008 the annual turnover reached approx. 58 million DKK, of which more than 30 million DKK were attracted from external sources.
