Research areas
The research areas are divided into two main areas:

  • Crop physiology
  • Climatic control in glasshouses

Beside the above-mentioned topics a number of projects concerning development of new pot plants will be performed.

Crop physiology

  • Climatic conditions and growth
  • Environmental stress during growth and postharvest
  • Fertigation and substrates
  • Root physiology
  • Influence of growth factors on the keeping quality
  • Influence of postharvest factors on the keeping quality
  • Development of growing systems which require less water and nutrition

By intensified plant production the need for modern cost reducing technical installations and electronical control systems is increased. Efforts have been made to minimize the production costs of the glasshouse growers by optimizing the climate shields of the glasshouses, develop new climate strategies, improve ventilation of glasshouses and on-line monitoring of growth.

Climatic control in glasshouses

  • Irradiation
  • Air temperature and -humidity
  • CO2-use
  • Plant microclimate
  • Artificial lighting
  • Daylength
  • Light quality and intensity
  • Increasing energy efficiency through dynamic climate control
  • Climatic control as a tool for pest and disease control
  • Development of alternative growth media

Subjects, which the research group would like to work on, if the economical resources were present

  • The possible influence of indoor flowers and plants on human quality of life
  • Plant microclimate, where only the climate close to the plants is controlled as regards CO2, air temperature and -humidity
  • The use of renewable energy sources in greenhouses
